Why it happens on Shopify
- The variant in your data has sold out, but its inventory isn’t tracked, so Shopify keeps sending it as in stock.
- “Continue selling when out of stock” is on for the variant, so the page still lets people buy while Google expects “out of stock”, or the other way round.
- A pre-order, back-in-stock or theme feature hides the Add to cart button or shows “Sold out” on its own.
- The product link opens a different variant from the one Google is checking.
How to fix it
- Open the product link from Merchant Center in a private window and check what the page says for that exact variant.
- In Shopify admin, open the variant and check “Track quantity”, the available quantity at the locations that supply your online store, and “Continue selling when out of stock”.
- Make the page and the data agree: restock the variant, or mark it out of stock. If you take pre-orders, make sure the page clearly says so.
- If an app or your theme changes the Add to cart button, check it shows the same stock status Shopify has saved.
- Turn on automatic item updates in Merchant Center (or with one click in Merchant Guard). Google then uses the price and stock on your product page when they differ from your data, which stops most new mismatches from becoming disapprovals.
- Rescan in Merchant Guard after the next sync to confirm Google has cleared the issue.
