How to fix “Missing colour, size, gender or age group” in Google Merchant Center

Merchant Center shows this as “Missing color, size, gender or age group” or similar wording. Here’s what it means and how to fix it.

What it means

Clothing, shoes and accessories need colour, size, gender and age group so Google can show the right variant to the right shopper. Without them, products can be disapproved or limited in some countries.

How to fix it yourself

  1. Check which attribute is missing (the issue names it in square brackets, for example [color]) and which countries it affects.
  2. Add the value for each variant: one colour or a few separated by "/", the size as shown to shoppers, gender (male, female or unisex) and age group (adult, kids and so on).
  3. Make sure every variant of the same product shares an item group ID, so Google knows they belong together.
  4. Update your shop or feed, then let Google reprocess the products.

Based on Google’s help page: support.google.com/merchants/answer/6324487. Google changes its rules from time to time, so check the issue’s own “Learn more” link in Merchant Center too.
